Chef and General Manager James Martin, along with brothers Barry and Brian Jessurun of The Vanilla Bean Café in Pomfret and Dog Lane Café in Storrs, opened 85 main in 2005. 85 main was created with goal of offering fresh, quality seafood and steaks along with locally grown produce in an atmosphere one might expect to find in a “big” city. The emphasis is on fresh ingredients and cooked-to-order menu items. The interior of the building was completely remodeled, creating a warm, inviting and casual dining environment. During the warmer months, the outdoor patio is open for dining.
The Daily Specials menu at 85 main showcases the creative vision of our chefs. We are always looking for the best quality ingredients, often sourced locally and seasonally. The specials are designed to complement the menu with even more innovative culinary artistry.

As the only raw bar in Northeast Connecticut, we take pride in our incredibly fresh seafood. Our shellfish is delivered three times a week to ensure freshness and our raw bar choices vary according to the season and availability. We typically stock three to four different oyster varieties alongside our littleneck clams and colossal shrimp cocktail. Our supplier, American Mussel Harvester of North Kingstown, Rhode Island services some of the finest restaurants from Maine to Maryland. Their shellfish is farmed and harvested in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner and they are active participants in the farm to table movement.
Our Master Sushi Chef has created a sushi menu that includes classic Japanese items as well as his own innovative and delicious creations. Using only the freshest ingredients that meet his high standards, Chef Osaki sources and oversees all aspects of the sushi bar.
